Beginning a new school year for children with autism

By PAM G. DOWNING/Special to the Brownsville Herald

Another school year was about to begin. The teacher and all her students were moving to a brand new school. That meant new surroundings, a different classroom, different students and new teachers. For many children, a change like this would be a bit scary in even the best of circumstances. For the children in room 103, all of these changes could easily produce a lot of anxiety.

  1. It is nice to see that you are linking to us down here in deep south Texas. I wish you the very best in Alaska. The next few columns are intended to be on a day in the life of the classroom. I admire any family that has a child with autism. These children are incredible and have a lot to teach us all.

    Sincerely,
