The Fairbanks AARC office now has a Make and Take area set up for making visual supports. Visit the office during business hours for a tutorial. You will be able to access Boardmaker software and a color printer in order to develop visual schedules, communication boards, and visual rules. Be as creative as you want, or feel free to utilize our templates.

She’s only 9 years old, but Rachel Pymm plays a critical role at Discovery Elementary School. The fourth-grader has taken an autistic classmate under her wing – teaching him to jump rope and encouraging him when he’s frustrated. “You’re doing a good job!” she told him during a recent lesson on cursive writing.

On January 21st at 5:15 pm, the Fairbanks AARC office will be holding a Make and Take demonstration before the University of Washington video teleconference. A short tutorial on utilizing Boardmaker software and other materials available in the Make and Take area will be offered, along with sample materials to browse. Come join us!

Immediately after Craig Rafail turns off the lights to his son Dyllan’s bedroom, the young boy responds, “Dad, why did you turn the dark on?” “That was one specific time I can recall thinking to myself, ‘Wow, he sees things totally differently. His mind is so unique,’” Rafail, a physical education and science teacher, said while recalling a memory of his son Dyllan, now a published author at the age of 12.
